Designed for Heads, Associate Heads, Directors, and Division Heads without accounting experience

This workshop is "Finance and Accounting for the Rest of Us!" In this complex financial environment, people who use your financial information expect more transparency and accountability. Are you asking the right questions of your staff? Are you providing the correct and relevant information to your constituents? This workshop will give you the tools you need. 

You cover these topics—and more
:

  • Accounting terms and concepts

  • Accounting processes and what they mean—accruals, allocations, prepaids, deferrals, reserves, depreciation, capitalizing vs. expensing

  • Identifying the relationships between the statement of activities, the statement of financial position and the cash flow statement

  • Financial statement analysis unique to not-for-profits and independent schools

  • Examining financial ratios, benchmarking, and trends

  • Reporting financial information to your constituents

Antoinette M. Swan

ISM Adjunct Consultant

Toni has served as the Director of Operations and Finance at Athens Academy (GA) since 1999, and has oversight of the 158-acre campus with buildings totaling 287,220 sq. feet. Her experience in accounting and accounting instruction include auditing and governmental financial accounting.

Toni is has served as a lecturer in financial, managerial, and honors accounting at the University of Georgia, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting. She leads the Not-For-Profit Accounting and Financial Reporting and the Financial Reporting for Heads, Directors, and Division Heads workshops at ISM Summer Institute and co-facilitates the ISM annual Business Officers Retreat.

3-DAY WORKSHOP

First day:
3–3:30 p.m.: Pick up your nametag 
3:30–5:30 p.m.: Session 
5:45–6:30 p.m.: Social Hour
6:30–7:30 p.m.: Dinner with ISM 


Second and third days:
7:30–8:30 a.m.: Continental breakfast
8:30–10 a.m.: Session
10–10:15 a.m.: Break
10:15–12 p.m.: Session

12-1:30 p.m.: Lunch  with ISM
1:30–2:45 p.m.: Session
3–3:15 p.m.: Break
3:15–4:45 p.m.: Session

Last day:
