This workshop is for experienced Head's Assistants.

”Eagles Fly Alone!”  Today’s Executive/Administrative Assistants soar to new heights to exceed expectations and take on new challenges.

This workshop is designed for assistants!  You will share strategies to help you meet expectations, learn techniques to increase your “circle of influence,” obtain new, found self-confidence, and most importantly, have fun while meeting new colleagues.  You will experience personal and professional growth, and take home an “action plan” to start you on a new course

Darlene Caraway

Darlene joined the ISM Summer Institute instructor staff during the 1992-93 school year. With extensive experience as an executive assistant in the United States and England, she brings a strong background to The Vital Role of the Head's Executive/Administrative Assistant.

Currently serving as Executive Assistant to the Head of Greenhill School in Addison, Texas, a position she has held for 34 of her 36 years at the school, Darlene has worked and led workshops in a variety of environments and knows the contributions that an effective assistant makes to an organization and to the Head of School.

She began her tenure at Greenhill School in 1976, as assistant to the Head of the Lower School. While in this position, she also taught typing classes to Upper School students. In 1978, she was promoted to Executive Assistant to the Head of School/Board of Trustees. In 1997, while in this position, she was named women’s assistant varsity tennis coach. She held that position for eight years until 2005, when she was offered the Middle School girl’s head coaching position.  This is her seventh year in that position.

In addition to her work with ISM, Darlene has directed workshops for all areas of support staff for the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest; Connecticut Independent Schools Association/CHAN; Richmond VA Association of Independent Schools; Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools and the St. Louis, MO Independent Schools Association. She was recruited to lead workshop sessions at the European Council of Independent Schools in Den Haag, Netherlands, directed a workshop retreat at Hilton Head, SC, presented at the 2006 NAIS People of Color Conference in Seattle and for the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools.  Darlene studied at Weymouth Technical College in Weymouth, England.

3-DAY WORKSHOP

First day:
3–3:30 p.m.: Pick up your nametag 
3:30–5:30 p.m.: Session 
5:45–6:30 p.m.: Social Hour
6:30–7:30 p.m.: Dinner with ISM 


Second and third days:
7:30–8:30 a.m.: Continental breakfast
8:30–10 a.m.: Session
10–10:15 a.m.: Break
10:15–11:45 a.m.: Session

12-1:30 p.m.: Lunch  with ISM
1:30–2:45 p.m.: Session
3–3:15 p.m.: Break
3:15–4:45 p.m.: Session 
5–6 p.m.: Social hour

Last day:
7:30–8:30 a.m.: Continental breakfast
8:30–10 a.m.: Session

(Salt Lake City concludes at 10 a.m.)
