Workshop DescriptionLearn how to efficiently maintain and manage school facilities. This course gives Business and Facilities Managers the necessary tools and strategies to plan, carry out, and evaluate an effective facilities management program. You will leave with a game plan for both day-to-day and long-term operations of your school buildings, and a reference notebook full of proven ideas and practices. You cover these topics—and more:
Workshop Leader Bio(s)Patricia Myler Patty brings 24 years of facilities administration experience to The Well-Kept Campus: Strategies for the Facilities Manager workshop, which she co-leads with Stewart Howard. The Facilities Director at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart (MD) since 1992, Patty oversees the operation of its 36-acre, K-12 campus incorporating 12 buildings, a natatorium, and multiple playing fields. Previously, Patty spent 10 years in commercial property management with the CES Companies and managed two large racquet and health clubs. She taught school for several years before becoming director of a community recreation center for the Washington, DC Department of Recreation and Parks. Patty has completed numerous facilities courses, including the ISM courses How to Improve Your Facilities Management and The Well-Kept Campus. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Marymount University and is also a Certified Property Manager. Stewart Howard Stewart, Director of Buildings and Grounds at Norfolk Academy (VA), co-leads The Well-Kept Campus: Strategies for the Facilities Manager with Patty Myler. Stewart has been in facilities administration for the past 23 years, and has been with Norfolk Academy since 2004, He oversees the operation of its 72-acre campus including 18 buildings, eight faculty houses, multiple athletic fields, and an aquatic center. He supervises a staff of 36 facilities professionals including Maintenance, Grounds, Housekeeping, and Security. Stewart has successfully project managed several multimillion dollar capital improvement projects including the school's latest 90,000 square- foot Fine Arts Center and Athletic Pavilion additions. Prior to coming to Norfolk Academy, Stewart spent 17 years at the Chrysler Museum of Art as the Facilities Director. The Chrysler Museum is rated one of the top 25 fine arts museums in the country by the Wall Street Journal. He is a long-standing member of International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) and is a Certified Facilities Manager (CFM). Stewart is a Certified Asbestos Inspector and Asbestos Project Planner; he is a licensed Class “A” Contractor in the state of Virginia and has completed numerous facilities courses including the ISM course The Well-Kept Campus which he is now co-leading.
