The connection with colleague, presentations, and sharing of ideas to make the Admission office better was valuable. The marketing session was particularly helpful, as were discussion on interview and visit processes.

Workshop Leader Bio(s)

Beth Lowry Speck

Beth Lowry Speck has been in the educational field for 38 years. She was an educator at a variety of schools before coming to Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Houston,TX. At Duchesne, she has been a teacher, an Alumnae Director and for the last 14 years, the Director of Admission. Duchesne is part of the nationwide Network of Sacred Heart schools. As a graduate of Duchesne, parent of alumnae and longtime Duchesne faculty member, becoming the Admission Director was a wonderful opportunity to share the school she loves with prospective families. She leads Admission 201: Strategies for the Admission Veteran at ISM Summer Institute.

Beth was a founding member of the consortium begun in the Houston area for Admission Directors (HAIS-AD) in the early 90’s. She has just finished her second term as Treasurer and the organization has grown to over 80 member schools. The member schools collaborate on testing, common recommendation forms and hold a Private School Preview every year for new families interested in private school admission.

Beth has been involved with and has attended workshops with HAIS-AD, ISAS, ERB, SSATB and AISAP. She has been a presenter at the ERB and ISAS Admission workshops. She finds that the seminars that share one another’s talents are the strongest and give the participants real tools to take home and use in their own school. Being an Admission Director for a PreK-12th grade program has given Beth the opportunity to experience admission work at all levels and the expertise needed to know how to talk to families at every level as they consider admission to her school.

Beth also served on the Board of The Associated Alumnae and Alumni of the Sacred Heart (AASH) for 12 years. During part of that time, she served as National Treasurer and President.  She traveled extensively in the United States and abroad working with alums from other Sacred Heart schools on educational issues.
