"How do I develop an International Student Program at my school?"
Our International Student Program Development Service is designed to help administrators and faculty members establish the desired content, structure, and outcomes of a pilot international student program.
What We Do
Creating and implementing a mission-appropriate international student program at your private-independent school can be a daunting and overwhelming task.
This two-and-a-half day session is designed to help your administrators and faculty outline an international student program that is customized for your school’s specific mission, needs, and goals. This includes exploring the “why” behind your school’s desire to enroll international students, risks of starting a program to solve a declining enrollment challenge, and creating a program designed for long-term growth and success.
The consultation is led by ISM Consultant Jacqueline M. Yamada. Jacqui has more than 25 years of experience in education, serving most recently as Director of International Programs and Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) at the Rocky Hill School, RI.
Before the onsite visit, Jacqui administers the ISM International Student Questionnaire to your school’s administrators. She then analyzes the results, in addition to your school’s:
- Current admission criteria
- Enrollment procedures
- Document protocols with enrollment
- Parent/student handbooks
- Any applicable contracts with international families, host families, and agents
On arriving at your school, Jacqui will sit down with key constituencies, including the International Student Program Director and team, faculty members, students, and members of the Board.
She’ll then cover the key concepts for establishing a pilot international student program that fits your school. This includes providing recommendations for vetting students and the consultants who represent them for mission-appropriateness. It also includes discussing an enrollment, admission, and on-boarding process for your program, as well as other areas of potential risk.
Jacqui will also highlight conversations needed among your enrollment management, administrative, and academic leadership teams. Together you will establish the educational philosophy and policies needed to integrate mission-appropriate international students into your learning environment.
Benefit to You
International student programs continue to gain popularity. But your school must first examine its “why” behind its desire to enroll international students, and then create a program that’s best suited for all students involved.
ISM does not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Our consultation ensures the needs of your individual school are met, enabling you to meet your goals as rapidly, creatively, effectively, and efficiently as possible. We will work together to ensure your international program is purposeful, thoughtful, and student-centered.
