Barbara Beachley brings more than two decades of school leadership and consulting experience to her work with private-independent schools. Grounded in the belief that thoughtful leadership and healthy organizational culture drive excellence, Barbara helps schools strengthen leadership, faculty development, and academic programs to align intentionally with mission and student needs.

Barbara returned to ISM in August 2026 as Senior Consultant Officer following two successful interim school head appointments at Charleston Day School in South Carolina and Childpeace Montessori School in Oregon. Before that, she spent 13 years at ISM as Senior Consultant, Executive Director of Organizational Learning and Development, and Director of Survey Research, advising private-independent schools across North America.

Having served as both an interim school head and executive consultant, Barbara brings a practitioner's perspective to every engagement, helping schools develop practical, sustainable strategies.

As an ISM consultant, Barbara partners with schools in leadership coaching, faculty growth and evaluation, school culture, strategic academic planning, and teaching in extended periods. She facilitates customized consultations, leadership retreats, board workshops, and professional development programs designed to strengthen leadership capacity and align organizational systems with long-term strategy.

Barbara is the co-author of Comprehensive Faculty Development: A Guide to Attract, Retain, Develop, Reward, and Inspire, and she has authored more than 50 articles on educational leadership, faculty development, and school culture. A frequent presenter for NAIS, FCIS, SAIS, ISACS, and other independent school associations, she regularly leads workshops on leadership development, inclusive culture, artificial intelligence in education, and brain-based teaching and learning.

Barbara holds graduate degrees from Columbia University Teachers College, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Boston University. She serves on the board of the Witness Tree Institute of Ghana and is passionate about helping independent schools cultivate courageous leadership, thriving professional cultures, and learning environments where students and educators can flourish.
