A School Head of School Who’s Been in Your Shoes
Scott joined ISM in 2021 after 40 years in independent schools, where he served in nearly every leadership capacity — from teacher and coach to head of school. He most recently led Baylor School in Tennessee as President and Headmaster from 2009 to 2021. Before that, he served as Head of School at Brookstone and Valwood Schools in Georgia, and earlier in his career held multiple roles at Hammond School in South Carolina, including Upper School Head and Director of Admission.
In addition to his school-based leadership, Scott has served as a director for several key associations, including the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA), Tennessee Association of Independent Schools (TAIS), and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). His governance expertise and people-first leadership style have made him a trusted coach and advisor for school leaders navigating change, growth, and the daily realities of headship.
At ISM, Scott leads workshops and webinars, serves as a mentor at the Advancement Academy, and provides executive coaching to heads, boards, and senior leaders. His work centers on building collaborative leadership, healthy school cultures, and sustainable strategies for long-term success.
Scott holds a bachelor’s degree from The University of Georgia and a master’s degree from The University of South Carolina. He was named a Klingenstein Fellow at Columbia University’s Teachers College in 2006.
