As you're working a million miles per hour, try to keep these organizational steps in mind. They'll help you stay focused, feel more productive, and save time.

Make a path. If your office has an area for meeting with colleagues, keep it clear. That coffee table might seem like the perfect place to stack some folders you don't need to get to for a week or so, but the added clutter reduces your productivity.

Before you leave for the night, clear off your desk. This doesn't mean you should put all the papers that were on your desk on that table in the corner for the night, either. Decide what needs to be on your desk, what is priority and what isn't, and clear away what you've decided isn't.

Throw away old machinery that doesn't work. If your office still has old printers and computers stacked in the closet or in the corner that no longer work, now is the time to clear them out. If you need to replace a piece of equipment to increase your productivity, now is also the time to put in that request.

Add something attractive for eyes to rest on within distance. You should look away from your computer screen every few minutes. This allows your mind to take a mini-breather and re-focus. If you add something pleasant, your mind will relax from the stress that awaits you back on the screen. This can be anything from fresh flowers to a picture that makes you remember a happy moment.

Place everything you need within reach. Move the items you use most closest to you so you won't waste time reaching for them. You shouldn't have to leave your desk to staple things or file documents. Organize your space so you can maximize your productivity.
