Before you start planning a Monte Carlo Night, you need to check the local and state laws first to make sure your event is legal. And it is advisable to have a chat with your school's attorney as well. And remember while it can be fun, where you want to focus your attention is building an exciting and vibrant culture of philanthropy best done with your Annual Fund.

According and article posted online by PTO Today it may take a little work to figure out the right government office to contact. For example:

Iowa—Department of Inspections and Appeals
Delaware—Gaming Control Board, Division of Professional Regulation Department of State
Wisconsin—Division of Gaming, Department of Administration
Louisiana—Office of Charitable Gaming

For general information, you can check your state's charitable gaming laws here. Remember, this is for general guidance only. You should check directly with your state and your attorney for definitive advice.
