June is Gardening and Great Outdoors Month!

What can you do to make the outdoors a welcome haven, even if the school isn’t in full swing? Prepare for the summer session with outdoor learning—fresh air will better engage enthusiasm! Inspire your faculty to get creative and bring the indoors out to spark their students’ imagination. Have a summer session class under the trees, go on a nature walk, or have an art class with students drawing what is around them. Remind your faculty to find little ways to sneak in a little teaching all summer so kids are always learning.

Encourage your staff to challenge the students this summer session. How can they take arts and crafts to a new level?  Utilize the environment—the beach, the mountains, the city, nearby streams and rivers to create a teaching opportunity as well as getting an art lesson! Need ideas for your faculty, click here for some great outdoors crafts.

Re-Use? We use!

Have the students recycle and create a pallet table like the one shown here: How else can your staff get creative while helping the environment?

Be safe outdoors. When your staff takes the students outside, remind them to:

  • Wear sunscreen;
  • Drink plenty of water;
  • Know the air quality before taking children outside;
  • Use caution when using any type of tools, as well and using all safety equipment; and
  • Always supervise any childrens’ projects.
