Having something to say is for some the hardest part even if they’ve mastered the technical end of things. Do you share your life, career challenges, hobbies, digital images, perhaps a collage of all of these things? And, how do you choose to communicate? Twitter, Facebook, establish your own blog site? According to the latest online report, 500 million—more people than the entire U.S. population—have a profile on Facebook alone! Which is why it was thought that social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook would eliminate the use and creation of blog pages. However, it seems that blog sites are here to stay.

Statistically, people love blogging! Blog sites have become part, of the normal landscape on the Internet—and people simply love reading them. This year, 51% of U.S. Internet users (113 million people) will find themselves reading a blog at least once a month. By 2014, it is estimated that 60% (150 million people) of the Internet population in the U.S. will read a blog a month. And, as for blog writers, it is estimated that just under 12% (33.4 million people, not companies or organizations) of the online population will update a blog at least once a month.

And, that includes teachers, too!

Here are some popular teacher blogs to share with your faculty:
Teacher Lingo
Ranting Teacher
Dream Teacher
Beyond School

But, let’s not forget that online communication can be risky. Just as it can be informative, it can be dangerous to your overall school’s reputation and faculty culture. If your school doesn’t currently have a policy in your employee handbook, you definitely want to get serious about creating one. And you should also consider looking into Internet Activity Coverage. Protection from Internet risks has never been more important than it is now.
