As students being prescribed medical marijuana is becoming more and more common across campuses, schools are finding themselves in a rather unique situation. Most schools don't have clear guidelines as what to do with students carrying cannabis—and the popularity of the prescription has taken some districts by surprise.

What some school administrators fear is the potential risks of drug dealing on campus that this presents. Legally, students don't have to inform officials or authorities about their prescriptions.

What are the medical reasons students are being prescribed marijuana? It's still controversial among practitioners, but there's an increasing number of young adults with ADHD being treated with medical marijuana instead of Ritalin, one of the more common treatments. Some physicians claim that the active ingredient in cannabis however, disrupts attention, memory, and concentration, which are already issues for students with ADHD.
