Schools use portable technology for more than just education these days. From Facilities Managers being able to create to-do lists on the spot, to taking pictures of receipts for record travel expenses, to filling out teacher evaluation forms while observing the classroom, technology is helping school administrators and faculty members work more efficiently. Here are a few apps we think are worth exploring.

Apps For Educators

iTunes U—The world’s largest online catalog of free education. This app is great for anyone who never wants to stop learning. There are more than 500,000 free lectures, videos, books, and other resources on thousands of subjects available. Contributing schools range from elementary campuses through distinguished institutions such as Standford, Yale, MIT, and Oxford.

See. Touch. Learn.—One of the world’s most popular education apps. It’s been downloaded over 300,000 times. It’s a picture learning system designed by professionals for children and adults with autism and special needs. Parents and educators can build custom card lessons and track their child’s learning, but this app also comes ready with a starter set of 60 exercises created by a certified assistant behavior analyst.

TeacherPal—A personal all-in-one organizer. This app enables teachers to organize classes and students in a simple, intuitive interface. It also allows users to track attendance, grades, and behavior of students.

Edmondo—Makes it easy for students and teachers to stay connected and share information. Users can send notes, submit assignments, post replies, and check messages and upcoming events while away from the classroom. Teachers can post last-minute alerts to their students, keep tabs on recent assignment submissions, and grade assignments.

Whiteboard—A great app for meetings. Whether everyone is sitting in the same room or dialing in to meet from the road, this app allows you to connect to each other’s devices to collaborate in real-time.

GoToMeeting—Attend all of your Webinars and meetings from anywhere at any time.

Prezi Viewer—Present, retouch, and revise anywhere with simple, intuitive multitouch gestures. If your school is a Prezi fan, this is one app you need to download.
