January 1 Brings New State and Local Regulations—With January 1 quickly approaching, now is the best time to check with your employment attorney to ensure that you’re aware of any changes that are coming regarding employment regulations in your state. For example, the California Chamber of Commerce has published a list of employment-related laws taking effect in California on January 1.
Employment Lawsuits Aren’t Going Away … And They Are Getting More Expensive—Workplace harassment and discrimination suits have cost organizations more than $356 million in 2012, according to the most recent statistics available. Of the top 25 settlements (ranging from $1.2 million to $168 million), the median award was $3.5 million. More information is available here.
