Developing A Mission
Consider beginning this process by creating an “Athletics” mission statement. It should answer the question: “Why are we sponsoring athletics at our school?”
There are potentially many reasons, including student and parent expectations, an opportunity for students to grow individually and socially, “school spirit,” and the like. The point here is to know why YOU are offering the programs, so that the various activities and how they are conducted are all in alignment with this mission.
Set Clear Expectations
Be clear with students—and parents—as to what they can expect when it comes to activities, especially team sports. The following list is what you need clearly and completely explain in writing, readily available for those participating.

- Practice times & commitment

- Travel
- Philosophy on “Winning”
