Both ISM and CASE offer a plethora of information, strategies, and resources for private-independent schools. Some materials are free (e-letters, e-lists, PDFs, etc.), while other materials are free for members, like ISM Consortium Gold members.
Back in the early '90s, John Taylor, Associate Vice Chancellor, Advancement Services, for North Carolina State University, put together a Web site and e-list for advancement professionals that is another excellent resource. It’s called FundSvcs, and it's a clearinghouse of sample documents he has collected over the years that you can download.
“Since I created FundSvcs, I have gathered and saved hundreds of documents of interest to the entire development profession,” said Taylor. “You can access those by visiting Fundsvcs.org and clicking the ‘download’ link. There you will find nine primary file categories, 25 subcategories, and over 500 examples.”
One popular request that Heads, Business Managers, and Development Directors make is for Job Descriptions. Fundsvcs.org has 13 different examples. Gift Acceptance Policies and Pledge Documents can be found as well. There are also categories such as Law & Legal Related (95 examples), Institution-Specific Documents (140 examples), and Presentations & Papers (56).
Readers share resources and examples on the ISM e-Lists for Advancement and Admission Professionals as well. To join these free resources, click here and select the lists you wish to join from the drop-down menu at the bottom. NOTE: Only Admission Directors are allowed to join the ISM Admission Director e-List. Any school administrator is welcomed to join the Advancement Directors e-List.
